Hurricanes React to Coach Rod Brind'Amour's Shirtless Stanley Cup Celebration

Rod Brind'Amour added another memorable moment to the Carolina Hurricanes' Stanley Cup celebrations, and it quickly became one of the most talked-about scenes from the Hurricanes' championship night.

In a locker room filled with champagne, cheers, and the Stanley Cup, Brind'Amour stepped into the center of the celebration before a player partially opened his shirt. The Hurricanes coach then pulled it off completely and tossed it into the air, revealing the physique that earned him the long-running nickname "Rod the Bod."

As players roared in approval, Brind'Amour lifted the Stanley Cup overhead while champagne sprayed throughout the room.

The Carolina Hurricanes' official X account shared the video with a simple caption: "ROD THE BOD."

The reactions to Brind'Amour's shirtless celebration poured in almost immediately.

Hockey analyst Jan Eichler wrote, "Serves as an example. It's simply impossible for you not to be in form when Rod Brind'Amour is your coach. Rod the Bod."

Podcaster Adam Gold joked, "Our head coach flat embarrassing us with his conditioning!"

Daily Faceoff's Jonny Lazarus added, "Rod looks like the fricken Green Goblin."

The celebration capped a historic night for Brind'Amour and the Hurricanes. Carolina clinched the 2026 Stanley Cup with a 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6, securing the franchise's first championship since 2006.

Brind'Amour, who captained that 2006 team, became just the seventh person in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup with the same franchise as both a player and a head coach. He is also only the fourth individual to accomplish the feat as a captain and coach.

"It's just as awesome, but as a player it was a little different because I worked and dreamt of winning the Cup my whole life, so that was like a piano came off my back," Brind'Amour said to the media after the Stanley Cup win. "This time around, I wanted – it was for the group. I wanted them to feel what it's like."

The shirtless celebration only added another iconic image to his Hurricanes legacy.
