Mitch Marner's Stanley Cup Final Stats Draw Attention After Golden Knights' Loss

Mitch Marner's finish to the 2026 Stanley Cup Final has become a major talking point after the Vegas Golden Knights fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games.

Following Carolina's 3-0 victory in Game 6 to secure its first Stanley Cup since 2006, SDPN Sports' Drew Livingstone highlighted Marner's production over the closing stretch of the series on X.

"Mitch Marner 0G | 1A | -5 over the final 3 games of the Stanley Cup Final. All losses. Just folded in crunch time," Livingstone wrote.

The post quickly led to debate among NHL fans, with each user sharing their perspective on Marner's performance in the last three games.

One supporter showed criticism that followed Marner during his years with Toronto, writing, "Seen it for 9 years! Nothing made me happier than to see him go full pumpkin here."

Another fan said, "The Canes dodged a bullet when Marner vetoed a trade there."\

One user wrote, "Some things never change. No one's gonna talk about that, though. But they should. He always disappears. Leaf fans right again. You're either first or you're last. Marners a loser."

Others defended the winger.

A fan wrote, "The whole team basically folded, Carolina shut them down. You can't blame Marner."

Another fan said, "The fact that you're bashing a guy who was Conn Smythe fave almost right to the very end is hilarious. What have you done that's close to that? Hell, what have the core you pretend aren't the problem done that's close to that? Keep fake laughing in Tor to hide your tears, ppl."

One fan reacted, saying, "Did the Leafs make the playoffs without Marner cmon give your head a shake."

The discussion comes after an outstanding postseason from Marner. The 29-year-old recorded 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in 22 playoff games and helped drive Vegas to an unexpected Cup Final appearance.

Marner was dominant early in the championship series, producing seven points through the first three games, including a natural hat trick in Game 3, scored within 6:10.

However, Carolina gradually took control. After erasing a four-goal deficit in Game 3, the Hurricanes tightened defensively and limited Vegas to five goals across Games 4 and 5 before completing a Game 6 shutout. Vegas managed only 22 shots in the finale and went more than 18 minutes without registering one during the second and third periods.

While Marner's late-series numbers will draw scrutiny, Carolina's defensive structure was the decisive factor in turning the Final and ending Vegas' championship hopes.
