Gooding, Kimberly dominate all-conference softball selections in SCIC
The Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference featured two of the top three teams in the final 4A softball rankings, according to MaxPreps.
Softball - Gooding vs. Kimberly
Gooding's Olivia Rogers pitches to Kimberly's varsity squad during their conference matchup on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Kimberly. Rogers was one of five Senators to receive all-conference honors this season in the SCIC.
Kimberly and Gooding played out an intense back-and-forth in the conference on their way to a combined 48-14 record. The No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in the 4A softball tournament, respectively, finished second and fourth at the tournament.
Kimberly topped the conference's regular-season and district tournament for the fourth season in a row. Gooding finished second, and the Senators performed well in the postseason to claim a spot in the state tournament for the fourth year running.
The Bulldogs and Senators thus dominated the conference's postseason honors, with a combined seven representatives on the all-Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference's first team.
Kimberly senior Madi Trappen claimed the Defensive Player of the Year in the SCIC. A dynamic player in Kimberly's middle infield and across the outfield, Trappen had the third-best fielding percentage among the Bulldogs in the 2026 season at 0.928.
Trappen appeared in all 32 games for Kimberly this season as the Bulldogs averaged fewer than five runs against per game.
Softball - Marsh Valley vs. Kimberly
Kimberly's Brooklyn VerWey rounds the bases after hitting a home run against Marsh Valley during the state tournament on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Filer High School. VerWey was one of two underclassmen on the all-SCIC first team in softball.
Yet, the offensive player went to Buhl's Megan Ambrose. Ambrose thrived despite the Indians finishing the season 3-20, while Buhl failed to register a win against an SCIC opponent until the 4A District 4 softball tournament.
The Buhl sophomore was a shining light in an otherwise poor season. She led Buhl in most major batting categories. Those include batting average, home runs, RBIs and hits.
Ambrose's batting average of 0.581 and on-base percentage of 0.649 topped the Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference. Her three home runs also put her in the top five batters in the conference.
Given Kimberly's regular-season and district tournament championships, it is no surprise to see Ryan Trappen named the SCIC coach of the year. Kimberly finished the season at 27-5. Two of those losses came against Gooding, and two came via Cole Valley Christian in the state tournament championship series.
Softball - Sugar Salem vs. Gooding
Gooding's Kodi Garza (7) celebrates a double against Sugar-Salem during the state tournament on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Filer High School. Garza featured on the all-SCIC first team for softball in 2026.
