2027 NFL Honors Ceremony Won't Be Televised, Per Report
The 2027 NFL Honors ceremony has reportedly found a new home.
When Matthew Stafford was named MVP of the league earlier this year, fans watched him receive the award on NFL Network and NBC. Although it hasn't been finalized yet, Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports is reporting that Netflix has a deal in place to stream the 2027 NFL Honors ceremony.
"Last year, the Super Bowl week event-which commemorates NFL awards winners such as MVP, Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year-aired on NBC and NFL Network," Glasspiegel wrote. "It had traditionally been simulcast by NFL Network and the Super Bowl rights partner each year. It is 'likely' that Netflix would be the exclusive broadcaster this season for the event, a source said."
Judging by the early reactions online, NFL fans aren't thrilled about Netflix potentially getting the rights to this event.
"Seems like a waste of money but ok," one fan said.
"Great now I can skip it," a second fan replied.
"What are they doing to us," another fan asked.
What does the NFL have in store for Netflix?
Netflix's co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, has already confirmed that season-long packages won't be pursued by the company.
"We're not bidding on whole season of sports, including the NFL," Sarandos said during an interview with Fox Business Network.
That being said, Netflix is set to stream a Week 1 showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
