DISTRICT DOMINANCE: Kimberly sweeps boys and girls 4A District 4 track and field championships

KIMBERLY - The Bulldogs left little doubt as to which track and field team is the best among the four 4A schools in District 4.

Kimberly's Karlie Bair competes in the 100 meter hurdles during the District 4 4A Championships on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Kimberly.

Not only did Kimberly top the team scores at Wednesday and Thursday's 4A District 4 track and field championships. The Bulldogs won more individual events than Filer, Buhl and Gooding combined.

In girls track and field events over the two-day meet, Kimberly claimed 13 gold medals across 19 events. The headliner of that was Karlie Bair. Her four triumphs across four events powered Kimberly to a team score of 138.5

The 4A District 4 track and field championships award six team points for a gold medal, four points for second, three for third and two and one for fourth and fifth, respectively.

Therefore, Bair contributed 24 team points to the Kimberly team as the Bulldogs outscored second-place Filer by 47 points.

She was the only Bulldog athlete to win multiple individual events, but Renetta Welsh, Sariah Welch, Hannah Fisher, Isabella Burnett, Kate Hanson and Mariah Baird picked up gold medals in Kimberly's relay events, as well as other individual events.

Filer's girls placed second behind a strong performance over two days at Kimberly High School.

Jillian Price picked up two individual wins in the 800M and 1600M. Lilyann Curtis won the triple jump while Peyton Hollifield took gold in the 400M.

Buhl and Gooding both had individual winners of their own. Addyson Vulgamore of Buhl finished first in the girls discus, and Gooding's Jocelyn Sears won the long jump.

Kimberly's margin of victory in the boys track and field meet was even greater than that of the girls, despite fewer individual gold medals. The Bulldogs totaled 129 points over two days as Filer finished second again with 68 points.

Gooding, despite winning five individual events, amassed 62 points to finish third. Buhl failed to win a gold medal in the boys events as the Indians scored 20 points.

Filer's Jarrett Mai wins the 100-meter race with at 11-seconds flat during the District 4 4A Championships on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Kimberly.

Filer's Jarrett Mai stole the show in the boys 100M and 200M. Mai won the 100M over Kimberly's Joe Barrett by 0.03 seconds, and he edged Barrett by 0.08 seconds in the 200M. They will duke it out again at the 4A state meet next week.

Kimberly's Joshua Sonderegger continued to blitz the field in shot put and discus, with the sophomore setting a personal best in the former with a throw measuring 58 feet and 8.5 inches. That is the best throw in Idaho High School shot put this season.

The Bulldogs swept through the relay events on Thursday, setting three personal bests across the four relay events.

Gooding won five events, all coming in the jumping category. Cougar Stockham won gold in the high jump and triple jump. Fellow Senator Raiden Johnson won the long jump.

Bridger Pope also claimed a pair of gold medals. He leapt his way to victory in the 110M hurdles and the 300M hurdles on Thursday.

The top-four finishers in each individual event qualify for the state meet, meaning representatives from each of the four schools that competed in the 4A District 4 track and field championships are sending boys and girls student-athletes to Middleton High School.
