FIS Offers Early Look at Next Season's Alpine World Cup Calendar

Following a meeting in Portorož, Slovenia, on Thursday, ski racing's governing body, FIS, offered an early look at the alpine World Cup calendar for next season.

The main topic for the sub-committee was discussing the calendars that showed where and when the skiers would race. Their goal, according to a news release shared by FIS, was finding a schedule that balanced the two poles of ski racing: speed (slalom, giant slalom) and tech (super-G, downhill).

"This brings fairness to the fight for the overall Crystal Globe and, from what we have heard from the athletes' representative in today's meeting, has been received very positively by the athlete community," said Markus Waldner, the chief race director of the men's World Cup.

As is tradition, both the men's and women's circuits are set to begin in Sölden, Austria, in October, with giant slalom races. Beyond October, races appear all around the globe, from Switzerland to Canada.

American fans, in particular, have plenty to look forward to. Killington, Vermont, didn't host its usual World Cup races last winter because it was replacing its iconic Superstar lift. But in the draft calendar for the 2026-27 season, Killington is back.

So is Sun Valley, Idaho. The ski resort, for the first time in its history, held the World Cup finals at the tail end of the 2024-25 season. The event saw several standout moments, including Lindsey Vonn's first post-retirement World Cup podium as she mounted a comeback ahead of the Olympics. Mikaela Shiffrin wowed, too, bouncing back from a serious abdominal injury earlier that season to win the slalom.

Now, per the calendar, Sun Valley's gearing up to do it again. That reaffirms an announcement the resort made earlier this year.

Other stops in the US include Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek, Colorado.

See where else ski racing is planned next winter below. The release noted that the provisional schedules are subject to FIS Council approval.
