Liam Coen Revisits Travis Hunter's Role Months After Season-Ending Injury
The Jacksonville Jaguars already know what they're going to do with Travis Hunter going into his second NFL season. During his rookie year, the wide receiver/cornerback was limited to just seven games and four starts due to a torn LCL in his right knee on Oct. 30.
During his collegiate career, Hunter's ability to play on both sides of the ball made him a can't-miss prospect, even winning the Heisman Trophy in 2024. The Jaguars continued utilizing his two-way talents, having him play 324 offensive snaps and 162 defensive snaps.
As a wide receiver, he recorded 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown. As a cornerback, Hunter accumulated 15 tackles, three pass deflections and allowed a 68.3 passer rating on 18 targets.
Playing on both sides of the ball takes an extra toll on Hunter's health. It even forced him to miss more than half the games as a rookie. Despite that, head coach Liam Coen confirmed the Jaguars will continue playing Hunter at wide receiver and cornerback.
"The plan has not changed at all, he's going to play both sides of the football just as we drafted him to do," Coen said. "We have the same vision for him in terms of being able to give him those opportunities... The plan to play him on both sides of the ball as much as possible absolutely stayed the same."

The Jaguars invested a lot in Hunter when selecting him with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He still faces high expectations, with FanDuel tying him for the 10th-best odds (+2700) to win Comeback Player of the Year.
The season-ending injury isn't expected to affect him going into 2026 either, with NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reporting that Hunter should be "100% full go by Week 1."
