Lakers Fans React to Bronny James Decision During Game 1 Against Rockets

From the moment Bronny James entered the NBA, attention has followed closely. As the son of LeBron James, his development has been tracked at a level few young players experience. Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th overall pick in 2024, Bronny made history with LeBron as both players became the first father-son duo to play together in the league.

Since then, however, he has struggled to secure a consistent place in the rotation, splitting time between the NBA and the G League. This season, James made 42 appearances, averaging 2.9 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 8.9 minutes.

Still, his role became a major talking point entering the playoffs. The Lakers entered Game 1 against the Houston Rockets shorthanded, creating an opening for deeper rotation players to step into meaningful roles. With Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves both sidelined due to injury, there had been growing discussion about whether James could see increased minutes.

That turned out to be the case on Saturday after head coach JJ Redick turned to James to start the second quarter, with the Lakers holding a 33-29 lead early. The move drew strong reactions from fans, many of whom expressed mixed feelings towards Redick's decision.

"He's not it. He simply isn't. JJ gotta stop this crap," one fan wrote.

"I'm a little concerned slash scared that bronny James is getting minutes in the playoffs," another fan remarked.

"Bronny James over Knecht and Thiero is crazy work," one fan said.

"Bronny James should not be seeing playoff minutes," another fan posted.

"Bronny getting actual rotation minutes in the playoffs ," mentioned one fan.

"1 turnover 2 fouls ," added another.

James logged just four total minutes during last season's playoffs as the Lakers were eliminated in the first round against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He matched that total before halftime on Saturday.

How much further James factors into the rotation will likely depend on both his performance and the team's injury situation as the series progresses.
