ESPN Reporter Denied Access For WrestleMania 42 Saturday

WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas is just hours away and ESPN will have coverage of the biggest wrestling event of the year. But one of the network's top reporters will not be getting in.

Taking to X on Saturday morning, ESPN reporter Andreas Hale revealed that he will not be covering the event. He said that his WWE credentials and access had both been blocked without any explanation to him or to ESPN.

"I will not be covering #WrestleMania for ESPN. WWE denied my credentials and blocked my access. Neither I nor ESPN has been told why. You can speculate on the reasons, but if you want answers, ask WWE. Let me know what they tell you," Hale wrote on X.

Disgraceful or Deserved?

Hale is a bit of a polarizing figure among WWE fans due to both his personal beliefs towards the company and some of his past reporting. While longtime WWE media people like Dave Meltzer did not agree with the move, others applauded it due to some of Hale's past criticism of WWE and its talents (particularly the late Hulk Hogan).

"After congratulating espn for the last story Andreas wrote this is very concerning. Andreas is fair and knowledgeable and this is a bad sign," Meltzer replied on X.

"I am not a moron so I know the reason why. (Spoiler alert: you do too). You chose to chase clout and do your reviews and articles with an agenda instead of making impartial yet fair critiques. Which is your right. Just don't expect the company you have an agenda against to invite you to dinner..." wrote another.

"Tells a lot about insecurity (from tko) only chasing over positive coverage but not the fair honest ratings lol….." a third remarked.

"WWE needs to deny anyone in the media. It's funny how the wrestling media is pro-AEW for 51 of 52 weeks of the year, but they all flock to wherever WM is every year. Go to Mississippi or wherever the next Dynamite is."

"WWE denying credentials because he told the truth about WrestlePalooza being mid? Bold strategy. Next they'll ban Dave Meltzer for saying the same thing for 40 years. Absolute clown show."

Like most sports and entertainment companies, WWE is very protective of its image. As much as they continue to strive for that mainstream appeal (and the corresponding ratings) that the NFL, MLB and NBA have, they still want as much control over all of the narratives surrounding the product.

Whatever the true reason behind denying Hale his credentials is, that's probably at the core of it.
