ESPN is coming to Boise. But this isn’t about BSU football. Here’s why

ESPN will be making a stop in Boise later this summer as part of its SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days feature.

The pre-produced program will highlight the Ironman 70.3 Boise triathlon, which is returning to the Treasure Valley for the first time since 2015.

SportsCenter anchor Nicole Briscoe will show off the City of Trees, interviewing participating athletes and introducing “viewers to the challenge and spirit of Ironman racing in the Pacific Northwest,” ESPN said.

The Ironman 70.3 Boise triathlon will take place on Saturday, July 26, with the ESPN segment set to air for the first time at 5 a.m. Mountain time on July 28 on SportsCenter.

“We are so excited to have SportsCenter feature this race and my community here in Boise,” said professional triathlete, Ironman winner and Boise resident Danielle Lewis in a news release.

“Having Ironman 70.3 Boise return to the circuit is incredibly meaningful for me and my community. Boise provided the environment for me to make my dreams a reality as a professional triathlete and Ironman provides an avenue for people to dream, set and reach personal goals.

“Sharing our sport and our beautiful city with a national audience on ESPN is a big deal to us here in Southwestern Idaho. We hope it inspires others to live, play, and work where their dreams can thrive.”

Boise’s Ironman triathlon begins with a 1.2-mile swim at Lucky Peak Reservoir, followed by a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run along the Boise Greenbelt.

SportsCenter’s 50 States in 50 Days tour will run June 27 through Aug. 16.
