Creek washes out key road that serves Boise Foothills trails, Race to Robie Creek

Shaw Mountain Road, a key access point in the Boise Foothills trail system and part of the Race to Robie Creek course, has been washed out in certain areas after a creek jumped its bank. The Ada County Highway District is working to repair the dirt road, which is closed for 3 1/2 miles beginning at Rocky Bluff Lane.

Shaw Mountain Road, which begins near Military Reserve, provides access to Shane’s Trail, Five Mile Gulch Trailhead (Five Mile Gulch, Watchman and Three Bears trails, among others) and Orchard Gulch Trailhead in the Ridge to Rivers trail system.

The road also is a major portion of the Race to Robie Creek route. The popular half-marathon is scheduled for April 20 with participants expected from 30 states and Canada. Event organizers expect ACHD to complete repairs in time for the race.

ACHD reported Friday afternoon that three breaches have been repaired and crews now will regrade the road. The repairs are expected to be complete by the middle of next week.
