Big first inning dooms Boise Hawks in loss at Salem-Keizer Volcanoes

Boise gave up six runs in the bottom of the first and never recovered, losing 8-3 to Salem-Keizer in Northwest League action Thursday night.

Hawks starter John Valek gave up six straight hits and six earned runs after striking out the leadoff batter.

Daniel Jipping led the Hawks at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a double. Sean Bouchard added two hits, two runs scored and stolen two bases.

Boise took the opening game of the series 10-9 late Wednesday. The two teams face off again the rubber match Friday night.
