Boise Hawks hold off Vancouver Canadians’ rally

Boise jumped out to an early two-run lead, and Juan Pena shut the door in relief as the Hawks beat the Canadians 3-2 on Sunday night in Northwest League action at Memorial Stadium.

Boise took an early lead as Vancouver’s left fielder misplayed Daniel Jipping’s single, allowing Danny Edgeworth to score.

Jose G. Rodriguez made the lead 2-0 with an RBI groundout.

Jipping added a solo home run in the sixth, but Vancouver rallied with runs in the eighth and ninth. Pena came on in relief with the tying run on first and one out, and he struck out the last two batters to end the game.

The two teams will play a series-deciding game Monday night.
