Former world champion scores Ignitor title

Jason Rupert captured the Nitro Funny Car title at the 47th Annual NAPA Ignitor Opener at Firebird Raceway.

Rupert crossed the line in 5.60 seconds, hitting 256.80 mph to defeat Dan Horan Jr. (5.76; 247.52 mph).

Earlier in the day, low qualifier Canadian Ryan Hodgson set yet another track record in the opening round (5.56) but was upset in the semifinals by Rupert.
