Idaho Steelheads drop exhibition opener against Utah Grizzlies

Utah scored two goals in the second period and finished with a 3-2 victory over Idaho in the ECHL hockey exhibition season opener for both teams Monday at the Olympic Oval.

Down 2-0, Kyle Jean got the Steelheads on the scoreboard with a power-play goal, and Will Merchant found the back of the net with 1:48 left in the game.

The two teams play another exhibition game Tuesday in Boise before their season-opening series Friday.

Idaho’s first home game is Oct. 21, also against Utah.
