3 more ski areas are open for the season; fresh snow is coming to mountains near Boise

By this weekend, all of the major ski areas near Boise will be open seven days a week. Brundage Mountain, Tamarack Resort and Soldier Mountain announced this week that they’ll start full-time operations this weekend, while Sun Valley said Dollar Mountain opened Friday.

The mountains also saw a spate of new snow as a storm moved through Southern Idaho on Thursday. Here’s the latest from Boise-area ski spots.

Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area

A Wednesday night storm brought 6 inches of new snow to the ski area up the hill from Boise. Forecasts were calling for nearly an inch of additional snow Thursday.

In a snow report Thursday morning, Bogus Basin officials said Deerpoint, Express and Coach lifts are open, as well as Explorer, Discovery and Easy Rider surface carpets.

The Nordic Center is open, though some trails (Nordic Connector, Lower Loop, Nordic Cut-Off, Boneyard and Two Deer) are closed due to logging.

Bogus’ tubing hill reopens Friday. Reservations are required. The Glade Runner mountain coaster reopens on Saturday.

Brundage Mountain

Brundage will open for seven-day-a-week operations on Friday, officials said. That’s due in part to a foot of fresh snow that fell last weekend.

By Friday, Brundage plans to have the BlueBird Express, Centennial Triple, Bear Chair and Easy Street lifts operating. Easy Street tickets are free all season long. Brundage hasn’t yet announced which runs it expects to be groomed or open.

Forecasts show more snow is on the way to Brundage, and temperatures this weekend will be in the single digits.

Soldier Mountain

Soldier Mountain will open for business on Saturday and Sunday, officials said. Weather permitting, they hope to operate on their regular schedule.

Sun Valley Resort

Sun Valley opened Bald Mountain ahead of Thanksgiving, and officials said Thursday that even more areas will be up and running this weekend.

Dollar Mountain will open at 9 a.m. on Friday. Four lifts, five runs and three terrain parks will be available. The Nordic Center opened Thursday morning.

On Bald Mountain, 43 trails are open — 22 of which are groomed — and six lifts are running.

Tamarack Resort

Tamarack will open full-time operations on Friday with Discovery, Tamarack Express and Summit Express lifts running. In the past 48 hours, Tamarack has seen nearly a foot of new snow.

The Donnelly-area resort expects Tango, Upper Serenity, Panorama, Adrenaline and Wildwood Way to be open, though lower mountain terrain likely will not be open Friday. For that reason, tickets are discounted on Friday.

Through Sunday, Tamarack could add between 6 inches and 19 inches of snow, forecasters say.
