Horsethief Reservoir re-opens for camping, fishing

Horsethief Reservoir has re-opened for camping and fishing.

The popular fishing hole 9 miles east of Cascade was shut down last fall. Idaho Fish and Game drained the reservoir and treated it to kill unwanted bullheads.

The reservoir has risen close to being full. Gravel was added to the bottom of the boat ramp, so it is usable.

Fish and Game restocked the reservoir with catchable rainbow trout and 6-inch brown trout in May. About 3,500 more rainbow trout are scheduled for delivery next week.

Camping is free at Horsethief on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground features picnic tables, fire rings, outhouses and community water pumps but no RV hookups. Camp visits are limited to 10 days.

Fish and Game owns Horsethief Reservoir.
