Camping improvements planned for Horsethief; watch time lapse of Boise River project

Idaho Fish and Game will hold an open house Tuesday to discuss potential camping upgrades at Horsethief Reservoir.

The open house is from 3 to 5 p.m. at Fish and Game’s Nampa office at 3101 S. Powerline Road.

Fish and Game is pursuing a grant from State Parks and Recreation to fund construction of four camp host sites with full hookups. Additional grant money would be used for steel fire pits for developed public campsites.

Earlier this year, camping was closed at Horsethief when the host resigned.

Idaho Fish and Game, which owns the reservoir, has an agreement with adjacent landowners to allow camping only with a qualified host on-site.

“Site development is necessary for us to attract and retain quality camp hosts throughout the camping season,” Fish and Game recreation site maintenance foreman Dennis Hardy said in a press release. “The fire pits will enhance the camping experience for visitors, while addressing the issue of fire safety at Horsethief.”

I wrote last month about the fish habitat project on the Boise River near Barber Park.

This week, Fish and Game provided a time-lapse video of the construction. Check it out at the top of this post.

Below is a video explaining the project.
