New equestrian facility should boost horseback riding at Swan Falls Dam
Idaho Power has added equestrian facilities at Swan Falls Dam south of Kuna, the latest improvement to a popular recreation spot in the Snake River canyon.
The facilities include a fenced area for loading and unloading and an improved parking and turnaround area for horse trailers.
The facility serves what has become a popular fishing, camping, hiking, biking, birding and horseback riding area between Swan Falls and Celebration Park. It’s about a 10-mile ride between the two.
Idaho Power worked with riding groups for more than two years to develop the equestrian facilities, according to the company. Previously, there wasn’t a good place to park, said Terry Burgess, president of the Treasure Valley Back Country Horsemen.
“This really is a great improvement,” Burgess said. “I think eventually, when people find out more about the fact that there is a parking lot there designated for that particular use, they will have more people riding down there. ... That area, especially in the wintertime, is a nice place to ride.”
