After a sold-out spring session, my Tight Lines 208 fly-fishing class, Learning to Fly, is back by popular demand this fall.

Idaho is one of the top fly-fishing destinations in the United States. Whether you want to sight-cast to rising fish in a blue-ribbon trout stream or feel the power of a Snake River smallmouth bass demolishing a streamer pattern, the Gem State has you covered.

If you’d like a comprehensive introduction to fly-fishing in Idaho, here’s your chance! Learning to Fly offers an entry-level overview of gear, strategies, species, locations and more, including hands-on, professional casting instruction.

Learning to Fly is set for Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Boise Spectrum. Casting instruction takes place at a nearby park, and details will be shared with class registrants via email. This class sells out quickly — register early to secure your spot! For more information or to sign up, visit www.tightlines208.com.

Students from the spring session have already been putting their skills to use. Pictured here, David Bundesen shows off a nice brown trout he caught on the Owyhee River — his first “real fish” on the fly, as he called it. Tight lines!

Jordan Rodriguez has been fishing Idaho waters since he was a teen. Share your fish stories, adventures and questions with him at tightlinesboise@gmail.com, or visit www.tightlines208.com for the latest local fishing reports and upcoming class offerings.
