Idaho Fish and Game changed some rules for 2022. Here’s how it impacts local anglers

As we get ready to celebrate the New Year, here are a few important reminders for local anglers, including regulation changes that impact fisheries across our region:

Fish and Game Updates Regs for 2022-2024. There are several rule adjustments for the next three-year window, beginning Jan. 1. Fish and Game relies on fisheries data and public input to guide changes that can improve fishing and increase angler opportunity. Changes in the Southwest Region include:

  • Trophy trout rules removed from six McCall-area alpine lakes. Brush, Crystal, Lake Rock, Long, Serene and Tule lakes have reverted to general rules (six fish per day, no size restriction).

  • Trophy bass rules adopted at Dick Knox Pond in Nampa. The bass limit is now two, none under 20 inches.

  • Kokanee limit reduced at Anderson Ranch Reservoir. The limit is now 15 fish per day, down from 25. The Kokanee limit at most fisheries, including Lucky Peak and Arrowrock, is six.

For a full list of statewide rule changes, visit the Fish and Game website.

Don’t forget your 2022 license! Idaho fishing licenses must be renewed every calendar year. No matter when you purchased your last license, you’ll need a new one starting Jan. 1. Licenses are available at any sporting goods retailer and select convenience stores. They can also be purchased online.

Check out the Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo! My friends at Boise Valley Fly Fishers are hosting the 17th annual Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo Jan. 7-8 at Expo Idaho in Garden City. The event will feature fly tying and casting demonstrations, gear vendors, guest presentations and more. Event revenue helps fund local fish habitat improvement projects and other worthy causes. Admission is $10, with kids 13 and under free. I hope to see you there!

Happy New Year, and tight lines!
