After sturgeon carcass found near Boise bridge, Fish and Game is looking for poacher

Idaho Department of Fish and Game is searching for anyone with information on a sturgeon poaching incident that occurred earlier this month, according to a Friday news release.

Officials said they received a report of a sturgeon carcass in the Boise River near Veterans Memorial Bridge on March 3. Conservation officer Steve Ross found only the head and fins remained on the 6-foot fish.

White sturgeon are a protected species in Idaho and can only be caught and released without even removing the fish from the water.

Anyone with information on the incident can submit a form online at idfg.idaho.gov/cap or call Fish and Game’s Nampa office at 208-465-8465, Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550 or Citizens Against Poaching at 800-632-5999. Citizens Against Poaching is offering a reward for information in the case.
