Dworshak State Park

Dworshak State Park is located among trees and meadows on the western shore of Dworshak Reservoir. The sprawling reservoir has 175 miles of shoreline, most of which is undeveloped, so it is a great place to take a boat and go exploring. This park is at low elevations so it has a long season, but spring can be rainy.

How to get there: Take U.S. 95 north to U.S. 12 and head east to Orofino. From Orofino, head downstream to Dworshak Dam. Take Old Ahsaka Grade to Freeman Creek Road, which will take you to the park.

Activities: Camping, boating, fishing, swimming and hiking.

Amenities: The park has three different campgrounds, four cabins and a large picnic shelter. There are also showers and restrooms. Big Eddy Lodge is available to rent for activities such as weddings, family reunions and other group functions. A boat ramp and handling dock provide easy launching most of the year. A fish-cleaning station is nearby to help with the day’s catch.

Activities: Fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, playground and archery range.

Nearest place to get supplies: Orofino.

Fees/reservations: Camping starts at $12 per night and cabins for $45 per night. You can reserve campsites in the Freeman Creek Campground from May 15 through Sept. 8.
