Intro to Geologic Mapping: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise. Learn the principles of geology, rock unit identification and description. Exploring Idaho Volcanism: Brittany Brand, volcanology professor at Boise State University, will lead a trip to Guffey Butte near Celebration Park to observe a maar volcano. Register at the WinCo parking lot on Meridian Road at I-84 at 7:30 a.m. with an 8 a.m. departure. West Valley folks can register at Celebration Park between 8:45 and 9 a.m. Bring lunch, lots of water and dress for the weather. Return to Boise by 5 p.m. Approx. three-mile moderate hike.
