Lost Nampa skier OK after spending night in snow cave

A 32-year-old Nampa man spent a night inside a snow cave after becoming lost on the back side of Tamarack Resort, KIVI-TV, Channel 6 reports.

At 11:33 p.m. Sunday, the Valley County Sheriff’s Office was informed of an overdue skier. Officials checked the parking lot and located a vehicle that helped identify the missing man as Sean Stevenson, 32, of Nampa.

The Tamarack Ski Patrol and Valley County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team were deployed and found Stevenson at 9:42 a.m. Monday near the Lone Tree Trail above Forest Service Road 218, KIVI reports.

Stevenson told officials that he became disoriented and skied out of bounds. After realizing he was lost, he dug a snow cave for shelter and spent the night, KIVI reports.

He was treated for dehydration and minor exposure related issues, the television station reports.
