Fish and Game investigating string of deer poaching in Boise area
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is investigating three incidents of poaching involving mule deer bucks near Boise that have happened in recent months, according to a news release from the agency.
The first deer was found on Robie Creek Road northeast of Boise after it was shot using archery equipment during open deer hunting season around Nov. 10. Fish and Game said in the news release that evidence and an initial investigation led the agency to believe the case wasn’t a “wounding loss,” a game animal that’s shot by a hunter but not recovered.
“The shooter likely knew the deer expired and failed to retrieve the animal, leaving the meat to waste,” the news release said.
The second deer was killed in an alfalfa field near Grandview in Owyhee County around Dec. 26, likely at night, Fish and Game said. That animal was left to waste.
The third deer was shot in the head on Jan. 30 or 31 at Arrowrock Reservoir near the Irish Point Dispersed Campground.
Fish and Game said it’s asking for the public’s help in collecting more information about the poaching incidents. Anyone with information can call Fish and Game’s Southwest Regional Office at 208-465-8465, call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999, or report online.
