Boise half-marathon usually sells out in minutes. This year, registration was extended
Race to Robie Creek, a popular Boise half-marathon, has sold out in as little as 10 minutes in years past. But this year, Idaho runners will have a bit more time to snag a spot in the race.
Race organizers have extended the registration deadline to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 unless slots fill up sooner. It’s the first time the race will take place since it was called off in 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Runners who had registered for the 2020 race and donated their entry fee had early access to register this year, while general registration opened Sunday.
It’s the first time in recent years that the race hasn’t sold out within minutes of registration opening, even though this year the race will have about 2,000 runners — roughly 500 fewer than usual, race director Michael Devitt told the Idaho Statesman last month. Devitt said he thinks that may be due in part to race organizers’ decision to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination from participants, as well as some people’s reluctance to gather in groups due to COVID-19 concerns.
Last month, the race’s organizers announced the vaccine policy on Facebook and were met with mixed reviews — including people applauding the commitment to public health and others who said the policy violated their health freedom.
Devitt said the course, which begins at Fort Boise Park and winds through the Foothills up to Rocky Canyon, will remain the same.
