Dietzler letter: How ISIS was really founded
Plenty has been said about Donald Trump calling President Obama the “founder of ISIS.” I decided to find out the truth.
It sprang from al-Qaeda in Iraq. The group’s roots are in the Sunni terror group al-Qaeda in Iraq, started in 2004 by Jordanian Islamist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
A major player in the insurgency against the U.S.-led forces that toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003 against the Shiite-dominated government eventually replaced Hussein.
When Saddam was ousted, power went to the Shiites, who wanted revenge.
Had the USA under President George W. Bush not toppled Saddam Hussein, would we be at war with ISIS?
Our fight with ISIS began in Iraq. The problem started on a different president’s watch. I believe he did what he thought was right. Rather than pointing fingers and blaming, it is more productive to look for solutions.
I plan to vote for the person I feel has the ability to be the best negotiator. I haven’t seen evidence that Donald Trump can bring Democrats and Republicans together, let alone other countries. Now is the time to vote for the best person, not the party. For more on how ISIS was founded: cnn.com/2016/08/12/middleeast/here-is-how-isis-began/.
