Young letter: Donald Trump

Donald Trump wants to “make America great again” — apparently he doesn’t watch the Olympics. If those “kids” (and golden girl Kristin Armstrong) aren’t proof this country is great, and always has been, I don’t know what is. What makes this country great is its ordinary people, immigrants and native-born alike. Not its wealth; not its rich demagogues; not people of Mr Trump’s ilk. He’s a clown, a cheese-puff parody of the Monopoly guy.

Recently I was shopping and saw a big, burly biker-type — wearing a leather vest with a cross on the back. The revolver on his hip caught my eye — paranoid much? I worry when paranoid people carry guns. And what’s with the cross? Can’t you just see Jesus when he “returns,” packing heat? Is that what “Christians” think the Lord would be like? That’s not the Jesus I know.

Trump is a symptom of what’s wrong with this country, as is the serious paranoia of some of our citizens, strutting their “manhood” around out of a belligerent irrational fear. What’s wrong isn’t progressive policies; it’s the “gun culture,” the underlying racism, and the Trump-esque lust for “huge” wealth that drives jobs and manufacturing offshore for pennies-on-the-dollar labor.
