This summer I had the opportunity to spend two weeks learning about how our state and national governments function. In June, I attended Gem Boys State sponsored by the American Legion of Idaho. I participated in a mock government experience which included being split into political parties, electing government officials, and gaining a better overall understanding of how the political process works. I met over 100 of my fellow Idahoans interested in learning as I was; it was an incredible experience. Thank you to the Legionnaires who spent countless hours preparing for and executing Boys State, and to Post 113 for sponsoring me.
At the conclusion of Boys State, I was selected to attend Boys Nation. Two representatives from each state traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in a mock government experience focused on the political process at the national level. We held party conventions and legislative sessions. We met Senate staffers and visited monuments. The American Legion of Idaho funded 100 percent of my Boys Nation experience. Thank you to the American Legion for offering these amazing opportunities to me. I will take the lessons I learned with me throughout my life.
