Gattiker letter: Wilderness bicycle bill
I appreciate your coverage of the Lee-Hatch wilderness bicycle bill; however, the article on Aug. 6 was misleading. It is important for readers to understand that the bill does not open all (or any) wilderness to bikes. Rather, the bill proposes to empower local authorities to allow/disallow bikes based on local conditions. Your article’s headline and in particular the caption on the photo on page 3 do not make this clear. I am not advocating a particular position on the bill, but I am suggesting that the Statesman needs to provide clarity about what the bill does and does not attempt to do.
