Alvarado letter: Insults unnecessary

Reference Scott Mecham’s July 17 guest opinion — surely he can make his point without gratuitous insults. I studied his transit views but am only able to recall his insult to the mayor. Why would he tarnish his point of view, formed by 20 years of downtown experience, with an irrelevant and pointless blast? He was offended by the mayor’s tactics but he weakened his argument and lost a potential convert to his views. Civility and respect are essential qualities for the effective operation of our republic.

Mike Alvarado, Boise
