Dickstein letter: Declaration of Independence

I would like to thank the Idaho Statesman for publishing the Declaration of Independence in the July 4 issue. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve read this document.

While reading, I noticed quite a few similarities between now and 1776 when the colonists expressed their grievances with King George III as mentioned in the declaration. A few of which (with examples) are: (1) ... erecting a multitude of new offices and sent thither swarms of officers to harass our people; (2) for imposing taxes on us without our consent (Horrendous tax increase included in Obamacare); (3) he has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our Constitution and unacknowledged by our laws giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation (supporting the United Nation’s plan to disarm the American people).

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us. Since I am limited to 200 words I will refrain from including more.

Does any of this sound familiar? It seems to me that Obama and the Democrats are attempting to follow in King George’s footsteps.

Dick Dickstein, Eagle
