Morton letter: Start the draft

Start the draft. Something that really bothers me is continuously reading about our military men and women going back and forth to the war zone many times. Most seem to have families. Many suicides occur in our military. In 1950 when the Korean War started, my friends and I were all about 21 years old. We were all drafted and sent to Fort Ord in California for basic training. A couple of friends didn’t want to go into the Army so they joined the Navy for four years. After time in Korea and other duties, when two years were up most were back home. I just don’t recall Korean vets going through what our men and women are going through now. I realize most of our military men and women are volunteers, but they shouldn’t have to go through what they are going through.
