Lodal letter: Filtering candidates

We are in for an argumentative summer. Can you feel it coming? The political spin-meisters are seeking to divide us. They don’t serve your interests or the health of the USA. They seek to get their candidate elected at whatever cost.

I’m a proud American, and I seek what is best for this country and my fellow citizens. Our long-term economic health relies on our advantages as a knowledge society. Fiscally sound management calls for tough decisions in bad times and long-term vision and investments in good times. I’ll support candidates who will position the USA as a leader in justice, in global cooperation and security, and in advocacy for solid economic growth for all.

Today I start the filtering. The media is in the entertainment business and loves it when I am fascinated by the noise of this campaign. They wish for me to consume their daily dose of hyperbole and outrageous quotes of the candidates.

I don’t wish to be divided from my fellow Americans. I am much more than a vote or an opinion to be swayed. I will resist the influence of the spin-meisters and the media as much as I can this summer.

John Lodal, Boise
