Marchbanks letter: Solarize

Rocky Barker’s recent Letters from the West highlighted growing support for solar energy among (gasp) tea partiers.

Now is the time, for all of us.

Solarizing your home or business is not only the right thing to do, it will also make you money.

Right now, state and federal tax breaks allow you to install solar panels at a cost that will save you enough money each month to pay off the system in 8 to 10 years. Then, your electricity is ... free.

It’s new technology; it’s free enterprise. It’s green, and puts green in your pocket.

The Snake River Alliance (a nonprofit organization) is launching a campaign, teaming with local businesses to “Solarize the Valley.” Workshops are being held valleywide. The campaign runs through July 31.

During the campaign, SRA will match you with particular companies that are honest, state of the art, and willing to assess the viability of solarizing your home or business building for free. If it makes sense to you, their prices during this campaign are especially competitive.

Solar is cheaper than it’s ever been. (Not true for Idaho Power’s coal-based system.)
