Hopkins letter: Republicans

I am a longtime resident of Boise, attended Boise public schools and Boise State University. I consider myself a political conservative on some issues — abortion and fiscal responsibility — and not so conservative on others. The current presidential race has me bothered like no other election cycle that I can recall. The reason for my predicament is none other than Donald Trump and his many supporters.

A common theme I hear from the Trumpers is he “tells it like it is.” Ask yourself, what does he “tell like it is?” He tells us that Mexicans are rapist and drug dealers. Muslims are to be feared and not let into our country. He says he is a great businessman although the facts show otherwise. He is demeaning to women and the disabled. I could go on and on but there is a limit to the number of words I can use.

I am not anti-Republican, I could support a candidate like Eisenhower, Ford or even John McCain on one of his good days. However, I cannot support a bigot, racist and narcissist like Trump. Trump supporters, wake up and do what is right.

Phil Hopkins, Boise
