Tanton letter: Freeway runoff
ACHD or ITD is doing some stupid stuff on the freeway. You can’t see the lines sometimes and now this with the rain not exiting the roadway. If you have noticed that the roads are peaked in the middle, that is so the rain runs off the roadway. Now on the freeway (I-84) they have put grooves in the road, but they ran the grooves along the length of the freeway all the way across it. This is stopping the water from running off and trapping it on the roadway. They should have run the grooves across the road, not the length. Now if the grooves ran across the road it would have made it a little noisy and maybe a little rough, but the water would be channeled off the roadway and not puddling like it is now. I don’t know who is doing their engineering or who is letting this stupidity go by on the plans, but they need to be reschooled. Also, anything they put on the roadway is supposed to be painted so it can be clearly seen. It is not being done and it seems no one cares.
