Wells letter: Fishing story
I am utterly disgusted by the Outdoors editor who approved publishing the “No Guts” story submitted by Chaz Ellis in your annual fishing supplement.
In it, Ellis gleefully recounts how a fish he had gutted slipped from his hands and swam away. The same thing then happened to his fishing buddy who dropped a gutted, but still living, fish into the river, where it also swam away.
What kind of sportsman guts a fish that is still alive? Since this story struck you as humorous and worthy of publishing, I can only say I am contemptuous of the cruelty of the anglers and absolutely appalled this story saw the light of day. This is a sad commentary on sporting behavior in Idaho.
