Fitzgerald letter: Gun laws
We have seen yet another story about the flow of guns from places where there are supposedly “lax gun laws” (like we have here in Idaho) to major U.S. cities.
The mayors of those major cities want all firearms restrictions to look like the ones they have put into place. When, oh when, is someone going to ask those mayors why the gun crime rate is much lower in those places with the “lax gun laws?”
These complaints are usually tied to calls for expanding background checks on purchases of firearms. Yet, less than 1 percent of the checks that denied a person a firearm are ever prosecuted. We should properly enforce existing laws before trying to make them more burdensome.
