Shelley letter: Clean energy
I’ve been reading about cities that are working on renewable energy goals and wonder what the city of Boise has planned. They’re by far the most progressive city in the area and have done tremendous work on sustainability. Just recently I was reading about plans for a citywide composting service. What a great thing that would be.
When it comes to citywide clean energy, I’ve not seen anything. My husband and I looked at getting solar panels on our house, but were told we do not have the right roof orientation for the panels to really provide enough power. I want to use renewable energy to power my home, but for now, I am out of options.
I would like Boise to step up, as a regional leader, and set a 100 percent renewable energy goal. I think that Boise setting the goal would spark other cities in the area to make the same commitment and send the Treasure Valley on a path being a renewable energy capital. Similar to the 17 cities in King County, Wash., working collaboratively on clean energy goals. Boise, step up and lead us into the future, don’t let us become the energy rust belt.
