Lunsford letter: Politician promises
Politicians are notorious for making promises. My favorite promise, of all the promises they make, is the one about how hard they will work for “We, the people.” For me, this is a joke that’s not funny or amusing, but it’s laughable. I first heard this promise when I was 18 or 20. I’m now 80, meaning, I’ve heard this same promise thousands of times in the last 60 years. Which gets me to the crux of my letter: if all of our politicians are working hard for us, why do they continue to tell us how bad things have gotten? Could it be they’re not working as hard as they promised? Or, could it be that promises are a-dime-a-dozen and you can get a “baker’s dozen” from any politician?
