Gavett letter: Currency photos

I grew up in North Dakota in the 1950s and lived near Lakota Sioux families as a child and young adult. They were the Fox family and Yellowbird family and they were excellent people. They never complained about anything in how they were treated by whites and the U.S. government. Their land was taken away and they were put on reservations and treated in some situations like animals. Now I read where a black woman will replace Jackson on the $20 bill and that Martin Luther King Jr. will be on the $5 and $10 bills on the back side.

Isn’t it time to put a great Native American on our currency like Sitting Bull or any other great leader of Native Americans?

Jim Gavett, Kuna
