Sanders letter: Vietnam veterans
Why are we all of a sudden going to honor Vietnam veterans? After 45 years or so we are going to be welcomed home to open arms? Why?
I was drafted in the late ’60s and served my year in Vietnam. When I got home I was treated rudely and not accepted by the people I knew and met. I finally just quit saying I was a veteran and served in Vietnam.
I finally quit caring, and I was uninterested in whether I was accepted or not. I know that what I did was what I had to do and did not have any choice. I served my country when they asked me to and am proud that I did. It was what I had to do, and I did not have any choice.
I served my country when asked to and am proud that I did.
