Bell letter: Bernie Sanders-NAFTA
In regards to the letter from Linda Pall, Moscow, March 14: I absolutely agree that our primary campaigns are much too long and filled with misinformation. In a very short 24-hour time span, I read two opposite statements regarding how Bernie Sanders voted on the North American Free Trade Agreement . How can two people with the ability to check facts have two different versions of the truth.
So, I did my own research on Bernie Sanders voting record. I had to sift through a lot of votes, friends. Here’s what I found: November 17, 1993 — HR3450 — the free trade agreement — passed 234-200, and Bernie Sanders voted no. Public record for all to see.
What I would like Linda Pall to remember is that Bill Clinton signed this into law and that his wife supported him at the time. Mrs. Clinton is now back-tracking a bit on NAFTA.
Either person Pall votes for is not my business. I’m thrilled she’s involved and interested in our country and voting. (Actually, I’m thrilled she’s not interested in voting for Mr. Trump.) I would, however, suggest that she does not lead her attack with an incorrect statement.
