Ward letter: Republican Party

Donald Trump is not the destroyer of my Republican Party. This unraveling began years ago when I was a delegate and a County Chairman for Ronald Reagan at the State Convention in Colorado.

In Reagan’s bid against Gerald Ford, the same type of establishment ex-also-ran-failures said Reagan was, “... nothing but a B-grade movie actor.” Four years later a landslide victory proved them wrong.

Trump was way down the list in my considerations for this year’s primary. But thanks to Mitt Romney and John McCain I am now a 100 percent backer of Donald Trump. He speaks his own mind and not the carefully cultivated, politically correct establishment rhetoric of the remaining candidates. He said he would serve without pay.

This 88-year-old Republican’s advice to Romney and McCain is this — you stood up, had your say; now sit down and be quiet. Remember, you also ran but you also lost; keep it up and we all lose.
