Hill letter: Legislature

I am disappointed that our state Legislature was not willing to rescind its misguided increase in registration fees for hybrid vehicles. This “fine” for owning an environmentally-friendly car that gets 50 miles per gallon is short-sighted and extremely unfair. As a result, I will pay the fine, albeit reluctantly, when my Prius’ registration is due, but I will be limiting my auto-related purchases in Idaho. Initially I will fill my Prius’ tank with its monthly seven gallons (that gives me 350 miles of travel) near my home in Meridian. But when my pickup truck needs fuel, I will drive to Ontario, spend the day shopping, visiting its excellent museum, enjoying lunch, and will purchase my 20 gallons in Oregon. I will also bring back enough fuel in “jerry cans” to fuel my Prius for several months. I also plan to do future vehicle and tire purchases in Oregon as well. It is time the Idaho Legislature does a better job of researching and seeking public opinion on its proposals before they institute misguided laws.
