Margheim letter: Candidates
As we move through this year’s election process, it is interesting in both the Democratic and Republican races. We are seeing a large shift in both where American citizens are tired, angry and disgusted with the current Washington rhetoric. However, the media and especially the Washington elite are working to hold on to the tight grip of “old time” power they have enjoyed for too long. Though I am not a Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders fan, I understand the reasons so many are leaning towards their campaigns: They want something different. The “professional politicians” tell us what we want to hear, yet they continue to perform at levels that would get you eliminated in a downsizing in the real world. People are voicing their discord, and the political powers are trying to manipulate the process, which was based on “Government of the people, for the people, by the people shall not perish from the earth.” It is being changed by super PACs and special interest groups, once again leaving the ordinary people of the United States without a true voice. Very disappointing.
