Bennett letter: Republican candidates
In order to understand the ongoing Republican primary fiasco it helps to turn to the writings of the great American novelist and philosopher of Capitalism, Ayn Rand.
In her essay “For the New Intellectual,” Ms. Rand wrote, “Most societies have been ruled by Attila and the Witch Doctor.” She said that Attila personified the “mindless, power-seeking looter” while the Witch Doctor was a “death-worshipping mystic.” The two personality types have often worked together to control Western civilization.
Clearly, in the 2016 primary, Donald Trump is “Attila” and Cuban-Canadian Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz is the “Witch Doctor.”
Factoring in his Christian Dominionist upbringing, Cruz may be the more dangerous of the two. And given his father’s anointment of him as the “chosen one,” Cruz may try to impose biblical law on the U.S. (“Biblical law” is Sharia law for Christians and Jews.)
The conservative movement once brought to power by Ronald Reagan has been hijacked by people who, at best, can only be termed “whackos.” Fortunately, Nancy Reagan has been spared having to live through the coming Armageddon of her late husband’s party.
