Kittelmann letter: Schools

In a letter published March 1, it was stated that private schools do a better job with the 4 percent of students they teach than the public schools with their 90 percent. She also stated the Idaho Legislature should give parents “increased school choice ... which would encourage public schools to step up their game.

Public schools teach all students, no matter their economic background, living situations, lack of supplies, chaotic backgrounds, etc. Private schools can expel students who do not “fit their criteria.”

If the Legislature would spend more on early education, children’s mental health issues, housing and parenting skill classes, perhaps then public schools could as stated by the author, “step up their game and benefit the children in them.”
